The Pprofessors Group: Andrei Lublinsky and Masha Zaborovskaya

The Pprofessors Group is an artistic cohesion between Masha Zaborovskaya and Andrei Lublinsky. The artists met whilst they were both studying at the faculty of design of the St Petersburg State Stieglitz Arts and Industry Academy, which they successfully graduated in 1994.

Both Zaborovskya and Lublinsky were and continue to be successful solo artists in their own right, with personal exhibitions of their works on display throughout Russia and Eastern Europe. Nonetheless, it is their decision to cooperate and establish the Pprofessors Group is what propelled them more into the international market. Prior to this, both were participants in the group 100/Projects Design.

One of the main reasons for their subsequent Western successes has been their combined decision to pursue their interest in the contemporary market by relocating and continuing their artistic study at the prestigious Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee in Germany between 1997 and 2000. This exceptional college gave Lublinsky and Zaborovskya the opportunity to fully submerge themselves into the contemporary sector of the art market. In addition to this, the Berlin art scene as well as the German art scene in general provided them with ample contrasts in the mediums, art forms and techniques with which they could express themselves. This proved invaluable when they created the works of art under the title of the Pprofessors Group, which officially formed in 2002.

Nonetheless, it is also important to account for the fact that having completed their course, Zaborovskaya and Lublinsky were able to return back to Russia and not only create contemporary art and design projects, but that they were also interested in educating young emerging artists in the field of comparative study with the Western art market. From 2002 onwards the Pprofessors group was welcomed to lecture in contemporary art throughout numerous art institutions in Russia, including their alumni university, the Stieglitz Academy.

Furthermore, their simultaneous admittance and acknowledgment of their collective group into the National Union of Artists, as well as the National Union of Designers in Russia, solidified their prominence as well as legitimising their project. This acceptance followed the Pprofessors Group being awarded multiple reputable and coveted prizes in Russia, such as 'Annual Union Design Duo' in 2004 and 2006.
