Valery Lukka

Valery Lukka was born in the village Gorohovo, Yaroslav region in 1945. In 1977 he graduated from Leningrad Academy of Arts named after Repin.

In the late 1970s two graduates of Academy of Arts Vyacheslav Mikhailov and Valery Lukka, together with Felix Folosenkov, declared themselves as a creative team in search of new means of expression. To create the necessary artistic effect, they began to use colorful textured layers. Thus, the artists disowned well-known and respected by them tradition of painting, in an attempt to approximate their works to life and turn them into something organic. However, their work is not deprived of literary and mythological references to the eternal images, but the first part was devoted to the physiology of texture.

The researchers of Lukka's work, name his style of painting "conceptual expressionism". His artworks is really distinguished by sincerity, and even painful hysteria, but, as a true spawn of postmodernism, it is not deprived of irony and citations from classical art.

All the three innovators are prized by art critics and fans, who nicknamed them "Three bogatyrs".
