Vladimir Migachev

Vladimir Migachev was born in 1959 in the village of Kucheryaevo, located in the Oryol region. In the late seventies, the Migachevs moved to Krasnodar where Vladimir enrolled into the Art and Graphic department of Kuban State University. After graduating, Migachev taught technical drawing and standard drawing courses in secondary school.

According to Migachev, his first painting fascination was abstraction. He consistently explored abstract painting from 1986 to the mid-nineties. Migachev appreciated abstract art for its lack of theme, literary references and ability to impact the viewer by means of purely painting features, particularly colour and composition.

In 1997 Migachev dedicated a year to wall painting in Orthodox churches. The practice of painting according to very strict canon laws made him reconsider his art and thus in the late nineties, Migachev returned to figurative painting. With time, landscape became his favourite genre. Nominally, Migachev paints his surroundings of vast, ploughed fields of Kuban with rare islands of poplars, vineyards, steppe farmsteads and railways. Migachev's landscapes are a result of the artist's individual 'spiritual vision' that lets him see the essence of what is happening in the world.

Migachev manages to combine the principle of realistic landscape painting with neo expressionistic approach in his works. The main subject for his paintings is the land, the land that holds his people. On this land history and life are happening. Migachyov's monumental and monochrome landscapes are both representational and conceptual. They can be treated as illusory picturesque spaces and as objects in which material, texture and collage bear emotional and semantic load. The artist brings the basic components of landscape, earth, sky, water and trees to the state of laconic formula and symbols.

Vladimir Migachev works are well-known on the Russian art 'stage'. He often exhibits in Moscow and has generated a growing interest in his art abroad. His paintings reveal the synthesis of the national spiritual culture with the latest trends of the world art.
