Yury Sychev

Yury Sychev was born in Lermontov, Stavropol region in 1963. There, he studied in an art school. His teacher, Vyacheslav Zhukov advised him to leave Stavropol to study in the Art Academy in Nizhniy Tagil, which hand a very good department of applied art, and then to live in Saint-Petersburg.

Following the advice, Yury Sychev graduated from the department of decorative metal of Nizhniy Tagil Art Academy in 1983. He realised, that he is more passionate for art than for jewelry making. That's why he decided to study further and chose Saint-Petersburg Academy of Arts. He became very attached to Saint-Petersburg. This affection is reflected in his landscapes, always bright, happy, and filled with passionate love for the world.

The artist thinks that Saint-Petersburg had already surpassed all the stereotypes of "Dostoevsky heroes", he doesn't see this city as a dark, gloomy place, even when it's raining.

The artist's favourite materials are acrylic, coloured pencils and pastel. In his works he combines painting and graphic techniques.

Yury Sychev's favourite old masters are Paolo Veronese, Rembrandt, Wassily Kandinsky, and all the ones, who managed to create their own, not pre-existing, world.
